You are cordially invited to attend a program at the Federal Courthouse in the Jury Assembly Room on Tuesday, April 15, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon). The event is to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the University of Florida’s Cuban Lawyer program. The purpose of the program was to assist Cuban exile lawyers, who had practiced as lawyers in Cuba, pass the Florida Bar. This is an educational program so that the lawyers of today can learn how the lawyers of yesterday struggled to overcome challenges. The community of Tampa, with assistance from the University of Florida and the Florida Bar, pulled together 40 years ago to make it possible for these determined Cuban lawyers to become members of the Florida Bar. Two of these Cuban-born lawyers, residents of Tampa, will be honored and will answer questions about their experiences. Historical materials and information will be available to all attendees. While the Hispanic Bar Association is sponsoring the event, the Bench Bar Fund is providing additional funding to make the program accessible to all lawyers, including members of our Chapter. This event is free and lunch will be provided.
